Sod Installation

At Gagnon Leduc Landscaping, we offer a turnkey sod installation service to obtain a green, uniform and durable lawn from the moment it's installed. Our approach ensures effective rooting and an immediate, aesthetic and healthy result.
Land Grading
Land grading is an essential step to redirect water away from your home, prevent water accumulation and protect your foundations. We adjust the slopes with precision to guarantee optimal drainage and a stable surface ready to receive the sod.
Replacement in Case of Poor Quality Sod Roll
It can happen that some sod rolls turn yellow after installation — a phenomenon that gives the lawn a burnt appearance. If such a situation occurs, we replace the affected rolls completely free of charge.
Why Install Sod?
Choosing sod means getting:
- •a beautiful and uniform lawn immediately
- •dense, healthy grass free of weeds
- •a resistant surface that's easy to maintain
- •an ideal solution after landscaping work or to replace a lawn damaged by white grubs or weeds
It's the fastest and most reliable method to transform your land.
When to Install Sod?
Sod can be laid from May to the end of November, as long as the ground is not frozen.
Cloudy or rainy weather is not a hindrance — on the contrary, the natural humidity of the soil promotes effective rooting.
Municipal Watering Permit
Some municipalities require a temporary permit for intensive watering after sod installation.
Plan for:
- •approximately 1 week to obtain it
- •a cost usually less than $50
This allows you to water adequately without violating local regulations.
Watering: Duration and Frequency
For the sod to root properly, we recommend:
- •2 waterings per day
- •45 minutes each
- •for 14 days
⚠️ Beware of Over-Watering:
Too much water can cause fungus, weaken roots or slow their anchoring.
Tip: gently lift a corner. If the sod stays firmly in place, the roots have taken hold.
First Mowings
Once the sod is installed:
- •start with a mowing at 4 to 5 inches
- •gradually reduce the height
- •avoid very short cuts, which stress a still young lawn
Sod or Seeds?
Sod provides a dense and uniform lawn instantly.
Seeds, on the other hand, require more time and maintenance. Since the soil remains exposed, it risks being washed away by rain or watering, which can create irregularities and bare spots. Young shoots from seeds are also more sensitive to heat and foot traffic.
We recommend seeds only for small repairs or very shady areas. For a fast, durable and uniform result, sod is the preferred option.
